Personal Journey

I have always had a passion for hair!  As a teenager, I used to style my nieces’ hair and do their makeup, then I’d do a photo shoot with my Polaroid camera.  Those poor girls!  I remember spending many hours at the beauty salon with my mother.  This ultimately led to home perms in the kitchen.   Hey, it was the 80’s!!

Unfortunately, growing up in a small town in Upper Michigan, I did not see hairdressing as a career.  It wasn’t until I moved to Grand Rapids and started going to big salons that I knew this was the career for me.

I attended Martin’s School of Hair Design and graduated in 1994.  21 years ago!  Since then I have continued to hone my skills with continuing education from master stylists in London, New York and many other cities.

I’ve also had the great opportunity to host the Monday Morning Makeover on Good Day Wisconsin.  There’s nothing better than giving someone a new look and making them feel like a million bucks!

Professional Philosophy

I feel it is important to give back and help others.  For the past 5 years I have been the Production Chair and Creative Director for the Prevea Runway for Life fashion show.  The fundraising event raises money for various cancer related charities in northeast Wisconsin.  It has been a great creative outlet for me and meeting the survivors who model in the show has been a life changing experience.  Having lost my father and brother to cancer, this event is very dear to my heart.

Most recently, I’ve have found another creative outlet in working on editorial photo shoots.  Partnering with my good friend Shanna Koltz of Koltz Photography has been an amazing experience.  We have done many photo shoots in the last 6 months, from fashion editorials to conceptual art pieces.  Along with styling hair I have been designing and building sets for these shoots.  It has been a lot of fun collaborating on an idea and seeing it come to life!!  To see some of my work, visit my Facebook page:  Tim Corey at Trucolors Salon.
